Encapsulated High Output Solar Cells
$8.95
These high output encapsulated mini-panels utilize solar cells similar to those that power satellites in space. Safe and simple to use, the mini-panels are ready to use out of the box and do not require soldering. The mini-panels are sturdy and allow for handling without the normal breakage and cell damage associated with handling most normal panels. A unique lens pattern allows these panels to collect light from all angles and each comes with 6GÇ¥ red and black lead wires already attached. -- All mini-panels are tested VOC (voltage open circuit) and ISC (current short circuit) using one full sun condition. -- Please note: Most applications require charging batteries (the solar operating voltage must be higher than the battery voltage). Direct powering of devices requires knowing the voltage and current of your device: -- Light bulbs: Use light emitting diodes (LED) which require 3 volts, plus 50mA per LED. -- Motors: We recommend motors that run 0.50v (1/2) to 7.2 volts, and require at most 100mA to start-up, then run at 20mA. The most important consideration for choosing a miniature motor is the "current"; many motors will require at least 200mA to 500mA of current to start-up.

Power House: Experiments in Future Technics
$149.95
Picture this: youGÇÖre stranded on a desert island with none of the comforts of home. To survive, you must learn how to harness the power of the sun and wind as well as tap the energy of other physical forces. This is the scenario that youGÇÖre prompted to imagine when you start to build the Power House. -- -- The Power House provides an engaging introduction to regenerative energy sources while teaching basic concepts and principles in physical science. The kit focuses on the heat and light energy from the sun, energy from the wind, as well as with electrochemical and plant energy. Learning how to transform and use these sources of energy will help you survive on the desert island. -- With the Power House, you can build a model house complete with solar panels, windmill, greenhouse, and desalination system, build and operate an electric train, solar cooker, solar hot water tank, hygrometer, electric motor, power hoist, sail car, and more! -- A great introduction to an attitude of conservation and renewable energy sources, the Power House consists of more than 20 different fun, easy to follow and environmentally conscious projects. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Power House -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Wind-powered Generator -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Solar Collector -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Solar Power Station -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Greenhouse -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Current Indicator -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Sail Car -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Hygrometer

Radiometer
$11.95
The Radiometer - A Real Solar Engine! -- The Radiometer provides an introduction to the study of thermodynamics that sits on your desk or table top. Set it in sunlight or incandescent light and watch the mill inside spin! -- The radiometer consists of four vanes, each has one blackened side and one silvered side. It is encased in a clear glass bulb that has a near perfect vacuum. So what happens to make the radiometer "work"? -- Crookes originally believed that sunlight falling on the light-mill turned the vanes so that the black surfaces were being pushed away by the light. He thought that this demonstrated that light radiation pressure on the black vanes was turning it round just like water in a water mill. -- -- -- -- The problem with Crookes' explanation is that light falling on the black -- side should be absorbed, while light falling on the silver side of the -- vanes should be reflected. This means that there would be twice as much -- radiation pressure on the metal side as on the black and the mill would -- actually turn in the opposite way. -- -- What really happens is that the faster molecules from the warmer side of each vane strike the edges obliquely and impart a higher force than the colder molecules. The movement of the vane as a result of tangential forces around the edges, is away from the warmer gas and towards the cooler gas with the gas passing round the edge in the opposite direction. Therefore, the movement is actually due to what happens near the edges of the vanes rather than at the faces. -- Try it out yourself and watch thermodynamics in action! The radiometer's four vane rotor spins continuously up to 3,000 RPM. -- It is 5" high and 3" in diameter.

Solar Beads
$7.95
Fashion has never been this educational! -- Learn about the sunlight with these amazing color changing beads. Solar Beads contain photochromatic dyes that react to UV light and cause the normally white beads to change into vibrant colors when exposed to the sun or UV emitting black light. Then, when removed from sunlight, the beads revert back to white. -- This bag of 100 beads can be used to make color changing bracelets, necklaces and more. Solar Beads can also be used to perform a number of science experiments: Find out what happens to your beads when they wear sunscreen, sit behind your sunglasses, are underwater or on a cloudy day. What keeps the beads white will prevent your skin from being burned!
