Did you know that lightning can travel at speeds of up to 136,000 mph and reach temperatures up to 54,000 degrees Farenheit, five times the temperature of the Sun's surface? The air nearby is heated so rapidly that a shock wave is created which is heard as thunder.

The Edmund Scientific's Plasma Ball has long been a fun "toy" that lets you bring a little taste of lightning into your home.

Physics For Beginners
Physics For Beginners is a fantastic physics outline/overview that's very easy to follow if you are a total novice. It introduce some concepts in physics (including Newton's laws of physics) to those people with little or no experience. If you have taken many courses in physics, these pages will be of little interest to you. For those needing the basics, this is one of the best!

The Physics for Beginners website also includes an Equation Solver for quickly solving some of the more basic physics equations. This site is perfect for Elementary kids, or any student that is just learning the basics.
